about

"Story of Your Life" is about our inner-world - the forces that shape us, how we relate to others and the internal worries that are part of the being human. A folk track - warm layers of guitar, electric piano and vocals give way to a sparkling chorus.

lyrics

I always felt like i was born fully grown
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t carry burdens in my mind.
People remark about old souls that it’s an enviable thing
But I pity them - their youth in another lifetime.

I became the sort who cannot bear to disappoint.
So I’ll lie to you if it's better fake than true.
People are drawn to open hearts, surrender anything,
I know I’m not one of them - I’ll hide and blind.

Take the worst parts of your self.
And imagine that these things all sit on almost everyone’s shelf.
It’s a self-affirming game.
But it’s imaginary, all the same.

I’m always happy when it storms, and rainy days
White noise submerging, and low light to hide in.
People reveal themselves to be what they stifle
Go on and look for them, their shy arrival.

Take the worst parts of your self.
And imagine that these things all sit on almost everyone’s shelf.
It’s a self-affirming game.
But it’s imaginary, all the same.
