about

Passport is the fourth single to be released from Elbury's forthcoming album, "A Life in Stages", which will finally hit the airwaves on 12 November.

Passport is about trying to make a journey back to somewhere from the past - that could be a place, a time in your life, a state of mind. In trying to recapture special moments from the past, we realise that things can never go back to the way they were.

lyrics

I have journeyed from another realm
I have been here before under a different name
The streets are the same
But this city I wouldn’t know
I’m searching in vain
For a feeling from long ago

Will I remember
The path that I found before?
I feel like I have already surrendered
To a stranger’s role - I’ll go where I’m told.
And it plays on my mind - all the stories I’ll never write.
Wars I’ll never win
Journeys that won’t begin.

So will I meet you where
Our lives went wrong?
We were young and unaware
That same old song.
No tomorrow, trade it for a yesterday
From so long ago

Now I’m surrounded by these memories of you
I’ll go back to where you found me
And I’ll assume that not a soul is still around.
And it’s all of the time I threw away.
It gets bleaker the deeper you go.

Take your passport out
Turn the pages
People come in and out
A life in stages
When it’s all said and done
Don’t mean nothing
Live my life on the run
Until there’s something there.

So will I meet you there?
Singing that same old song
No tomorrow, trade it for a yesterday
From so long ago.
